MJP Intern Program
Thank you for your interest in Michael Johnson Performance! We are dedicated to helping athletes reach their full potential and looking for interns and externs with this same passion. MJP offers intern positions for the fall, winter, spring, and summer training sessions, with winter and summer being the busiest peaks in our training year. MJP internships and externships are not paid experiences.
INTERNSHIP
What
The MJP internship program is designed to provide practical experience for beginners in the field of human performance enhancement.
Who
MJP is looking for individuals who are:
- Self-motivated
- Proactive
- Good communicators
- Interested in learning more about the field of human performance
Requirements
Intern applicants should have an interest in learning about MJP to determine possible career paths in or related to human performance.
Duration and Hours
10 weeks; 200 hours; days will depend on schedule and availability
Daily Duties
- Daily duties include, but are not limited to:
- Daily facility set up/tear down
- Maintenance
- Laundry
- Supplement distribution
- Conditioning
- Assisting performance coaches with all aspects of training and testing athletes
How to Apply
A cover letter and resume should be emailed to Steward Carlisle steward@michaeljohnsonperformance.com. Cover letters should tell us about your background and the experiences you have had up to this point in the human performance setting. Letters should also discuss what your goals would be during an internship at MJP. The third component of the internship application process is to provide a video of you coaching or interacting with an athlete/client/patient. This could be as simple as you teaching somebody how to perform a push-up properly or as detailed as the instruction of an Olympic lift. This visual component of the application process gives us the ability to see how you interact with others.

EXTERNSHIP
What
The externship curriculum is both theoretical and applied, with a majority of the program a “learn-by-doing” experience. The MJP externship program is designed to give externs guided practice in order to advance skills as a professional in the field of human performance enhancement.
Who
- MJP is looking for individuals who are:
- Competent in anatomy
- Computer literate – Microsoft Word/Excel
- Self-motivated
- Proactive
- Good communicators
- Passionate about helping athletes of all abilities
Requirements
Extern applicants should have an undergraduate degree, or be in their last year of coursework, in a Kinesiology/Exercise Physiology (or related) degree program to be considered for a position.
Duration and Hours
12 weeks; 400+ hours; M-F; select Saturdays
Housing & Meals
Housing with possible rommmate and breakfast/lunch (M-F only - 2 meals/day) will be provided for all externs. Transportation will be also provided to/from facility.

Daily duties include, but are not limited to:

- Supplement distribution
- Dynamic warm up, static stretching
- Conditioning
- Assisting performance coaches with all aspects of training and testing athletes
- Acquisition of MJP training concepts and methodologies
- Competency in demonstration of drills is expected. Externs should expect to gradually gain more and more responsibility with coaching and instruction of youth athletes.
